Reward your child for practicing. Oftentimes we make
practicing seem like a chore. We "reward" kids for taking the
trash out, getting good grades, etc., why not carry this out to other
things. By the way, this also works for other activities. Want kids to
read a specific book, offer them a reward for reading it.
2. Advice for music teachers
Arrange your music/band room with wide aisles and
walkways. As you teach, walk throughout your class room, sometimes behind
a student or beside him/her. This gives you easy access to all your
students. If a student is talking out of turn, goofing off, etc., you can
easily place yourself in close proximity to the student. This accomplishes
the same thing as seating the student near the teacher, but without moving
the student.
